About

Founded in 1996, 2023 marks the NIHCO’s 27th season!

The NIH Community Orchestra is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1996 to bring together the musical talent of NIH and the surrounding community. However, neither NIH affiliation nor auditions are required: all musicians are welcome to join, to build community through our warm and nurturing environment.

NIHCO rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings in North Bethesda, and performs three orchestral concerts per season (Sept.-June) across Montgomery County. Occasional chamber music opportunities may be offered year-round.

NIHCO is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County Government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County. Orchestral operations are further supported by membership dues and individual donations. Concerts always feature free admission, with donations gratefully accepted for NIH Charities. NIHCO supports the NIH community as an independent organization. Visit our secure donation page to make a contribution online.

Enjoy this special look (and listen!) at our past, present and future! (Thanks to NIHCO Executive Board member Lee Keiser for video production!)
